Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about custom cannabis packaging

What container shape should I choose?
The best container depends on your product type. Jars are ideal for flower, concentrates, and edibles — they offer premium shelf appeal and airtight storage. Tubes work best for pre-rolls, both single and multi-packs. Pouches are great for flower (eighths, quarters), gummies, and vape cartridges — they are lightweight, cost-effective, and customizable. Tins are popular for pre-roll multi-packs where a premium unboxing experience matters.
What material is best for cannabis packaging?
BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) is the most popular label material for cannabis packaging. It is moisture-resistant, tear-resistant, and durable — essential for products that may be handled frequently or stored in varying conditions. For brands looking for an eco-friendly option, kraft labels offer a natural, organic aesthetic while still being functional. We can also source specialty materials like clear labels, metallic films, and textured stocks upon request.
What's the difference between gloss, matte, and soft touch?
Gloss finish gives labels a shiny, reflective look that makes colors pop — great for vibrant designs and eye-catching shelf presence. Matte finish provides a smooth, non-reflective surface with a sophisticated, modern feel — ideal for premium brands. Soft Touch Matte (also called "velvet" or "suede" laminate) adds a luxurious velvety texture you can feel when you pick up the package. It is the most premium option and creates a memorable tactile experience.
When should I choose hand vs machine application?
Hand application is recommended for orders under 5,000 units. It involves a simple peel, place, and press process and carries no additional surcharge. Machine application is designed for automated label placement and is ideal for larger runs (5,000+ units) where consistency and speed matter. For orders under 5,000 units, machine application carries a flat $25 setup fee. Both methods deliver professional results — the choice comes down to volume and cost efficiency.
What is a dieline and do I need one?
A dieline is a template file that shows the exact shape, dimensions, bleed areas, and safety zones for your artwork. It is especially important for direct print orders where your design is printed directly onto the packaging surface — the dieline ensures your artwork aligns perfectly with the container's contours. For custom label orders, dielines help position text and graphics within the printable area. We provide downloadable dieline files for every product variant in our configurator above.
What file formats do you accept?
We prefer PDF, EPS, and AI (Adobe Illustrator) files — these vector formats ensure your artwork prints at the highest quality at any size. All artwork must be in vector format with fonts outlined, images embedded, and color space set to CMYK. We can also accept PSD (Photoshop), PNG, JPG, and SVG files, though vector formats are strongly recommended for the best print results. Maximum file size is 25MB per file.
